Have You Become Your Mother?
They say your children are a reflection of you. On this Mother’s Day, I hope the reflection my mother sees is a woman who learned from an early age that God is and will always be an important part of her life. I hope she sees a woman who has learned to harness failure into a motivating source of energy. I hope she sees a woman who takes criticism as a challenge and dares to be who she is without apology. I hope she sees a woman who learned marriage is not perfect and requires more dedication than any other relationship in life. I hope she sees a woman who strives to be the very best mother she can but also understands that it’s an imperfect journey – we do what we think is best and leave the rest up to God. I hope that she sees a woman who has learned that confidence is something best left unsaid and being humble is her superpower. I hope that she sees a woman whose compassion far outweighs anything that she is or ever will be. I hope she sees a woman of strength, although it may sometimes be her biggest weakness. I hope she sees a woman who came to understand life’s lessons because she didn’t accept handouts and worked to prove herself. I hope she sees a woman who works harder and longer than anyone she knows. I hope she sees a woman who knows how to love and be loved.
I hope when she looks at me, she sees all of this and more, because that is who my mother is. Everything I am as a woman, mother and wife, I owe to her. It is her faithfulness, energy, positivity, commitment, humbleness, compassion, strength, drive, and unwavering love that I cherish in her.
Happy Mother’s Day Mom!
